Diversity Statement

(Approved by the Board of Directors 01/02/1997):

The spirit of PFLAG is DIVERSITY — we appreciate and honor it, and commit to participate in it fully. Recognizing the benefit of hearing all voices:

We will increase our openness to divergent perspectives, opinions and ideas.

We will expand our awareness of differences by valuing each person’s uniqueness and contribution to the world

We will strive to overcome the barriers of race, color, creed, ethnicity, culture, national origin, language, sex, gender identify, sexual orientation, physical ability and other differences in our society that often keep us apart.

We will work pro-actively to develop relationships and build alliances with other constituencies, organizations, and communities

We will challenge and educate ourselves by continually asking: “What does diversity mean to the work we are doing?” and “Are we being inclusive?”

We honor humanity by building bridges of understanding.

We value and celebrate the richness and beauty of our diverse society.
