OUTREACH TO MARCH INTO 2018
2017 was another forward moving year for PFLAG Denver!
OUTREACH PROGRAMMING consisted of PFLAG board members taking on the commitment of maintaining healthy relationships with other LGBTQ+ organizations. We successfully nurtured relationships with: Colorado Aids Project, The Center, One Colorado, The Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce of Denver, OutFront Colorado, House of Deherrera, TYES, and The Gender Identity Center.
We have continued our promise to forge new relationships in 2017. We are successfully a representative of the newly established Colorado Equality Coalition. The coalition is designed to bring ALL LGBTQ+ organizations across the state of Colorado together to form one united group.
Additionally, we have become involved in a steering committee with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This year, we were able to participate in two events in partnership with the museum: The Science Lounge: Space Oddity and their LGBTQ+ Community Free Day.
Our DIVERSITY OUTREACH included a special addition this year, which was the involvement in the first ever, Latinx PrideFest held in Denver in May. Additionally, programming around dismantling white privilege was delivered to a church in March.
Our SUPPORT OUTREACH has continued to expand with the addition of new support groups in Jefferson County as well as a virtual group online. Trans Community Circle has continued to grow, becoming our most popular support group available with an average of 10 regular attendees.
PFLAG Scholarship Program also grew, including PFLAG Denver’s largest fundraising event which successfully allowed us to award $20,000 in scholarships to 7 deserving students at our ceremony in May.
Special programming was commenced in June in memory of the one year anniversary of the tragic Pulse Night Club Massacre. PFLAG Denver hosted our “Orlando United” candlelight vigil on the one year anniversary where approximately 250 members from the community gathered to remember those lost, June 12th, 2016.
Your continued support has enabled us to have another great year, and 2018 looks just as promising for PFLAG Denver!
